Dear Alumni Members and Former Students,
50th ANNIVERSARY DINNER AND CONCERT
This year marks a significant moment in the history of Queenstown Secondary School as we embark on our 50th anniversary. The school has come a long way since its humble beginning in 1956 as an all-boys’ technical school, known then as Queenstown Technical School, with 343 students in Secondary One and Two. To date, the school spans 36 classrooms with a staff strength of 80 and a student population of 1440; 11 principals and 8 vice-principals have served the school.
In celebration of our golden jubilee, the school is organising a 50th Anniversary Dinner and Concert to commemorate the occasion as well as to raise funds for improving the school facilities (see details below). The proceeds from the sale of the tickets for the Dinner and Concert will go towards building/upgrading and equipping a gymnasium when the school undergoes PRIME (Programme for Rebuilding and IMproving Existing Schools) next year. Not only will the upgraded facilities provide a more conducive environment for quality physical education and sports, they will also promote a greater collaboration amongst cluster schools and beyond. The plan to build a gymnasium is part of a greater plan in helping the school establish itself as a Centre of Excellence for PE/Sports in the cluster.
The school is appealing to Alumni members, former students of Queenstown Secondary Technical School / Queenstown Secondary School and well-wishers to support this event. We also wish to make a special request to you to help in disseminating the information on this important event to your former classmates and teachers. The occasion will provide a good opportunity to meet up with old friends and renew old ties with your teachers and the school. It also provides the opportunity for you to show support for your Alma Mater for the education you received, the values you learnt and the friendship you forged during the years you spent in it.
We are celebrating this landmark year with a renewed vision of "A School of Choice; Caring Community, Motivated Learners". Over the last 50 years, we are honoured to have attained numerous achievements. Among the more recent ones, the school received the MOE Value-added Academic Award for Normal and Special/Express for 2004 and 2005 and the Sustained Achievement Award for Physical Fitness from 2002-2005. This year, the school emerged champion in the Julia Gabriel Inter-school Debating Competition "C" Division. The school also won the CHERISH (CHampioning Efforts Resulting in Improved School Health) Award (Gold) in its golden anniversary.
Come join us as Quest celebrates its golden jubilee on 18 August 2006 and mark the date on your calendar now! Play a part in shaping the school’s future and helping the school to scale new heights. Your strong support will make this even a great success and, more importantly, encourage the school to strive for greater heights in its endeavours.
Should you have any queries, kindly contact the school’s Administration Manager, Mr Luke Ng, at 64741055.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Lau Yan Boon
